Exploring Salem Oregon: Salem Symphonic Winds: Represent
March 13, 2022 3:00 PM
Doors Open: 2:00 PM
Salem Symphonic
Winds brings REPRESENT to the Elsinore Theatre, a bold and expressive
statement of American musical diversity. Hannah Penn, featured vocalist on
James M. Stephenson’s Symphony No. 2 “Voices” and William Bolcom’s Five Cabaret
Songs, will entrance you with her dark, rich, and captivating performance. The
band presents powerful music with a profound emotional impact. The
African-American Symphony of William Grant Still depicts black American culture
with blues, spirituals, and beautiful harmonies unheard in concert halls before
his signature work was premiered. Celebrate the power and beauty of Oregon,
from breathtaking storms at our Pacific coast to floral meadows and magnificent
mountains, all captured in Magical Oregon by Frigyes Hidas. This program will
expand your awareness of band music genres and leave you wanting more.
Conductor John Skelton will offer a pre-concert talk about the music at 2:15
pm, followed by a short chamber music performance and the concert at 3 pm. This
project made possible, in part, by funding from the Marion County Cultural
Corporation.
NOTE: The
musicians are fully vaccinated and have prepared a dramatic program to entice
community members back into the theatre. Out of concern for public safety,
everyone attending the concert will be required to show ID and proof of
vaccination or a verified negative COVID-19 test completed within 48 hours of
the performance. Properly worn protective masks covering the nose, mouth, and
chin are required in the Elsinore Theatre. Please use appropriate social
distancing while at concerts.
